Question:
Strange friend requests on MY Space, question?

I have a My Space page I use only for connecting with a family member and have only five friends on my page. I use it to play a Zenga Game and connect with those five people.

Over the last four days I got three requests from total strangers. Two of the were minutes apart when sent. And the other asked me in it if I liked pills.

How are people I have never met nor do they know my contacts finding me? Is there a way to prevent this in settings? I have tried to set it private and thought it was. It is far different than Facebook which is what I am used to.

Advice and info appreciated. Thanks.

You're getting spam, basically. A lot of bots are going through the system and basically, spamming your myspace as they would an e-mail. I'm not sure if you are looking to completely make it so no one can request you ... but you can do this:

Go into 'Edit Profile'

'Account Settings'

'Notifications'

In the section titled, 'Friend Requests', it gives you options for users to add you - using CAPTCHA or them having to put in your last name or e-mail address in order to even request you.

There is also a section that lets you check if you want messages from users not on your friend's list.

Hope I helped!

Are u using any networking site for the first time?? i mean it can be possible because u just type any name in the friend search bar and u will get the name and profile..and what u said about getting request within two minutes of time...again its possible because Myspace provides you a feature where you can find the friend or see the people who is currently online..and now it depends on you if you want to accept them or not..

I used to get a lot of strange messages on MS also. These are spammers. You can change the settings so that people can only add you if they know your last name and can only message you if they're your friend.

I don't use MS anymore. I got weird requests and one creepy message on FB but its not as bad as MS

You can make it private so that the only people who can send you a friends request have to know your last name or email address.

sometimes you have to be private, not because it's a social working site you have to flaunt your profile because there are many friends out there. but always remember that not everyone has a good thoughts, not all of us are kind, not everybody can be a good friend. the only way you have to escape them is to get a new account. now start it private and dont post too many informations about you :)

They are spammers, just trying to lead you to their websites to make money off you. They find you by simply going to search and searching for all the people with a keyword in their profiles, or all the people within a certain distance of a zip code. No, there's no way to avoid getting messages from them, everybody gets them. They use software to message tons of people, so they dont even see your profile, the software automatically does it.

If you go to your privacy settings you can make it to where only people who know your last name or email can send a request.

You can't block it, you can block all friends requests, or block none.

Just ignore it.
